Argentina has a lot to offer many different types of travelers. It's the type of place where you can spend some time backpacking, hiking, camping and being the adventure traveler for a while. Argentina has a lot to offer to tourists of various interests. There's plenty to do outdoors as well as more cosmopolitan offerings, particularly in the capital city of Buenos Aires. This is often considered the most European of the capitals in South America. It's worth spending some time here to tour the various neighborhoods, sample some of the varied cuisine and, if you're so inclined, take a tango lesson or two.

One of the most impressive of the natural sites to visit is that of the Iguazú waterfalls. The falls lie at the border of Argentina and Brazil and are located in both countries. Many consider them to be the most beautiful in the world and one can both boat and hike here.

When it comes to hiking, there is also the Catamarca province in the northwest of the country. There are many natural attractions here such as mountains, lakes and rivers that offer the perfect scenery for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and more.

Another not to miss location for nature lovers is Patagonia in the south. Head to El Calafate, from where one can visit the mountains, forests, lakes and glaciers that this area has to offer. In Patagonia is also the Península Valdés. This is a wildlife sanctuary that offers an opportunity to see a huge number of both bird and animal species such as sea lions, sea elephants, whales, penguins, flamingos, egrets, cormorants and more. It's also a great place for water sports such as snorkeling, sailing, scuba diving, water skiing, jet skiing and fishing. Wind surfing and mountain biking can also be done here.

Wine lovers will not want to miss a trip to Mendoza, also in the northwest of Argentina. The country is known for its outstanding wines of many varieties and Mendoza is, without a doubt, the place to spend some tranquil days doing some sampling.

An unusual attraction in Argentina is the Tren de las Nubes or Train to the Clouds. This is the 3rd highest train service in the world, rising to as high as approximately 4000 meters above sea level. The train gets its name because there are many kilometers of the trip during which there are clouds surrounding it. It departs once each week from Salta, traveling to the La Polvorilla viaduct.
