Is a Visa required to enter Chile?
North Americans, Australians and nationals from most Western European countries do not require a Visa to enter Chile. Those from Australia, Mexico, Canada and the United States will need to pay a reciprocal tax which varies according to country. All others should check with the Peruvian Embassy in their country.

What is the language of Chile?
Spanish is the official language of Chile. Depending on where you travel, you may hear Mapudungu, Aymara or Rapanui (the language of Easter Island).

What is the currency used?
The currency used is the Chilean Peso. Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted in larger towns and cities; U.S. dollars are often taken as well. In these places, ATMs are also readily available. Traveler's checks are not recommended as they are often difficult or impossible to exchange.

Are there any vaccinations required?
There are none required but Hepatitis A and Typhoid are frequently recommended.

Is the country safe?
Chile is generally safe but one should take the same precautions that one would take in any city. Keep a hold of valuables and don't walk in dark areas alone at night.

How much should I tip?
In restaurants, one should tip around 10%. Taxi drivers are not tipped.

Is there Internet access readily available?
Most hotels will have Internet available and there are many Internet cafes all over. An increasing number of restaurants and cafes are going WiFi as well.

Is the water safe to drink?
Outside of some 5-star hotels, it is not safe to drink the water.

How easy is it to get around in Chile?
The bus network is extensive but one should remember that it can take some time to get from one place to another so if your time is limited you'll want to get information on schedules before making your plans.
