Chile Must See Places
Chile is a long country along the western coast of South America. It is so long that it spans more than half the length of the continent, about 4300 km. This length includes a great variety of ecosystems and, indeed, it is the scenery that brings most people here.

Although some make wish to avoid large cities, Santiago provides an opportunity to get to know the cosmopolitan culture of Chile as well as to take some daytrips to nearby sites such as the beach resort of Viña del Mar, the charming Valparaíso, local wineries with their harvests in fall or, in winter, some of the nearby Chilean ski resorts.

In the north, the Atacama Desert offers some amazing landscapes including some geysers, thermal pools, flamingo inhabited lakes and salt flats. Hiking and mountain biking are possible in this area and one can visit the archaeological site at Pukara de Quitor as well. Also in the north are geoglyphs, ancient drawings on the ground.

The Lake Region offers more opportunities for trekking amidst the wildlife. Within this area is the small town of Pucón from where you can take advantage of many other sporting activities such as white water rafting, kayaking, horseback riding, water skiing and snow skiing.

Trekkers will want to head to the Torres del Paine National Park in the Patagonia Region where you can enjoy single or multi-day hiking options, with stays in lodges or tents. There are lakes, waterfalls, condors, rhea and guanacos to be enjoyed along the way. Continuing farther south, you may want to take a trip by boat to get a better view of the glaciers. There are also penguin colonies that can be seen by boat or land.

Although located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, Easter Island is part of Chile. This island is famous for the huge statues with giant heads watching over the island. In the quarry, one can see hundreds of statues in various stages of being finished. It will require a flight of about 5 hr, 40 min to reach the island but is well worth it if your time and budget allow.
