DAY 1
Today:
Arriving at San Jose airport, you will meet with the tour director and be transported to your hotel where a local representative will help you check in. The rest of your day is at leisure in Costa Rica's largest and capital city. Overnight in San Jose.

DAY 2
Today's visits:
Get an early start heading east through Braulio Carillo National Park to learn about banana production at a banana plantation. Continue towards the Caribbean Sea to Tortuguero National Park surrounded by canals and lagoons. Board a riverboat to explore this lowland rainforest full of wildlife. Don't forget to keep a tally sheet of all the different types of sea turtles, monkeys, caimans, and exotic birds, and even endangered ocelots, cougars, river manatees, and river otters. In the afternoon you will visit the students from a small school in the village of Tortuguero, where you will see Costa Rican education first hand. Continue on to visit the Green Turtle Research Station where you will hear about it's efforts to protect the turtles nesting habitat and the young hatchlings. Breakfast lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Tortuguero.

DAY 3
Today's Highlights:
Another day to join your captain and guide as you launch out into the waterways of Tortuguero National Park where you will have to keep a lookout for sloths, green iguanas, caiman, colourful parrots and toucans as well as all the howler and spider monkeys and white headed capuchins as they traverse the dense rainforest canopy above you. July through September you have the option of joining a night walk with a naturalist to see the sea turtles laying their eggs after scooping out the sand to make their nests. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Tortuguero.

DAY 4
Today's Tour:
Say goodbye to the monkeys as you boat back to the mainland and board a motor coach bound for Horquetas to visit a family run palm plantation where you will get to savour a vegetable delicacy, heart of palm. Proceed to a pineapple plantation in Sarapiqui, producing the world's only certified organic golden pineapples. Learn how they are grown with the least environmental impact and taste the juiciest, sweetest pineapple. Leave the coast and head northwest to your hotel in Fortuna at the base of the Arenal volcano. Enjoy the hotel's great view of one of the world's active volcanoes. Breakfast and lunch included. Overnight in Fortuna.

DAY 5
Today Highlights:
Experience jungle and volcano today as you start the day at the Arenal Hanging Bridges, a fun way to see the canopy of the dense rainforest at eye level and breathtaking views of the smoke rising from the Arenal volcano. Continue to Arenal National Park to take a hike around the quiet side of the volcano to walk among the old lava rocks and learn about past eruptions. Stop for lunch at a local farm and visit the Danaus Eco-Centre. This is a great photo op for caimans, iguanas, and water-walking lizards, or a Blue Morpho butterfly as you stroll through the butterfly reserve. Check out the frog enclosure to see the poisonous red-eyed tree frog and the tiny blue jeans. Finish the day relaxing in the thermal mineral pools, waterfalls and hot springs of Tabacon Hot Springs. Depending on the volcano's activity, you may enjoy a spectacular light show with flowing lava. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight in Fortuna.

DAY 6
Today's visit:
Head south to the beach in Manuel Antonio National Park, known for its welcoming blue waters, white sand beaches and extravagant wildlife. Follow your guide through the park and increase your wildlife tally since the park boasts 109 kinds of animals including squirrel monkeys, white face monkeys and 184 species of birds resident in the park. You might even see a peccary. Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight on Quepos.

DAY 7
Today's Highlights:
Fly through the treetops on zip lines for a unique experience of the jungle including a Tarzan swing and rappel line. A great memory to tell your friends and family about. The afternoon is yours for some exciting optional tours, You can choose between a catamaran cruise to snorkel with the dolphins, parrotfish and sea turtles, a surf lesson, a mangove kayak tour, a horseback ride, white water rafting, or just hanging out at the beach or around the pool. Enjoy your new friendships with your fellow explorers at a local restaurant in the evening. Breakfast and dinner included. Overnight in Quepos.

DAY 8
Tour Ends
Transfer to San Jose airport to catch your homebound flight.
