How far are the islands from the mainland of Ecuador?
The islands are around 600 miles or 965 km from the mainland.

How do I get to the Galapagos Islands?
You will need to first get to Ecuador and take a flight from either Guayaquil or Quito. The flights leave in the morning and land at either Baltra or San Cristobal.

How many islands are there?
There are 6 main islands, 12 smaller ones and more than 40 even smaller islets.

Is there a fee to enter the Galapagos National Park?
For everyone but natives of Ecuador, there is a fee of $100 to enter the park. This is sometimes included in the price of a cruise. If not, you will need to pay the fee in cash at the airport when you land.

What is the language used on the Galapagos?
The language used on the Galapagos Islands is Spanish.

What currency is used?
For the most part, you will need to pay in U.S. dollars. In Puerto Ayora, there are some places that may take credit cards or travelers checks. You can also find banks here that will change traveler's checks or where you can withdraw cash using a credit card (MasterCard or Visa).

How long a trip should I plan on?
It's best to plan on a minimum of 5 days. The first and last days of your tour will include your flights to and from the mainland. Ideally, you should plan on at least 8 days so that you can get to see a good variety of what there is here.

What's included in the price of a cruise?
While this can depend from one cruise to another, it typically includes accommodation, three meals each day, island tours and an English-speaking guide. Airfare, park entrance fee, alcoholic beverages and tips are usually not included.
