Today join a tour to Moray and Maras. The stunning Moray terraces and the historic salt mines are situated in the hills of the Sacred Valley, close to Cusco. These two archaeological sites are considered some of the most famous attractions in the area. The region was used for agriculture and salt production in ancient Inca times. With over 3,000 salt pools and a perfectly lined terrace, the Maras Moray tour offers a glimpse into the impressive creativity of the Incas.
First, you will visit the Archeological complex of Moray, where you can see four slightly elliptical agricultural terraces that the people call muyus. There are a series of concentric terraces that resemble an ancient amphitheater, built within a bowl-like depression.
Next the Maras saltpans, the people channel the salt water that bubbles to the surface from a spring called Qoripujio towards artificial wells. The water evaporates from exposure to the sun, and the salt remains on the surface, which is transported later to the market for sale.
Finally, visit Chinchero Village. The town of Chinchero is a vibrant and ancient place where visitors can experience Inka culture through the preservation of its customs, archaeology, and craftwork.
