Set along Namibia's dramatic coast, the seaside town of Swakopmund is recognized for its broad avenues, striking colonial architecture, and its surrounding stark desert landscape.
Founded in 1892 as the principal harbor for German South-West Africa, Swakopmund is often referred to as more German than Germany. Now a lively resort town, Swakopmund anchors the Skeleton Coast tourism region, offering visitors an abundance of activities.
The distinctive blend of German and Namibian cultures, along with diverse adventure pursuits, a relaxed vibe, and invigorating sea breezes, makes it a favored Namibian destination.

Early morning drive along Swakopmund’s famous coastal road between dunes and Atlantic ocean, to Walvis Bay.
Join a boat cruise off the bay of Walvis Bay, all the way to the seal colonies of Pelican Point Peninsula. Enjoy fresh Walvis Bay oysters, sparkling wine, a light lunch, and drinks on board while watching the playful seals, aquatic birds, and dolphins.
The Namibia Dolphin & Seal Catamaran Cruise is a photographer's dream as well as a perfect time to relax. When there is no wind, the vessel uses its engines, which make virtually no noise. Otherwise, the wind guides the vessel silently through the 100 sq km lagoon area, protected by a natural sandbank called Pelican Point, home to a large colony of Cape Fur Seals.
Back on land, walk at the lagoon at Walvis Bay before continuing the drive behind the dunes to view the ancient Welwitschia Plants and the breathtaking Moon Landscape.
The ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis plant is endemic to the Namib Desert in Namibia and Southern Angola. Named after Friedrich Welwitsch, who "discovered" the plant in 1859, some of the specimens are estimated to be between 1000 and 1500 years old.
Next, head inland to visit The Moon Landscape, an eerie and mysterious landscape formed through years of erosion of soft layers of earth deposited in this area over 450 million years ago.
Return to Swakopmund in the late afternoon and leisure for the rest of the day.

After Breakfast at the hotel depart to Sossusvlei in the Namib Desert. ( approx. 5 hours’ drive )
The route takes you through the Kuiseb Pass, and the unique landscapes of the Kuiseb Canyon; you will be crossing the Tropic of Capricorn.
The Tropic of Capricorn has the approximate latitude of 23.5 degrees South. This is one of the 5 major circles of latitude and the southernmost point of latitude from where the sun can be seen directly overhead.
The most visited point of the Tropic of Capricorn is located in the Namib Desert, between the little dwelling of Solitaire and the Kuiseb Canyons.
Kuiseb Pass takes you through the Kuiseb Canyon, the watercourse of which only flows occasionally but often enough to halt the advance of the red sands of the Namib.
Mysterious and remote, the Kuiseb Canyon was carved a billion years ago by the Kuiseb River, which runs mainly underground. This deep fissure is flanked by steep folds of rock on one side and the copper-colored sand dunes of the Namib Desert on the other.
Arrive to Sossusvlei by the afternoon.
Sossusvlei is one of Namibia's most famous tourist attractions. The breathtaking landscape of this salt and clay pan surrounded by high red dunes makes it a must when visiting Namibia.
Enjoy a sundowner guided quad-bike excursion; ( children younger than 12 cannot participate ). View a magnificent sunset over the Tsaris Mountains surrounded by the majestic dunes.

Early departure to the Sossusvlei Dunes, you will also visit the Dead Vlei Salt White clay Pan and the Sesriem Canyon.
Located in the scenic Namib-Naukluft National Park, Sossusvlei is home to the iconic red dunes of the Namib Desert. Clear blue skies contrast with these towering dunes, creating one of Africa’s most scenic natural wonders.
This striking destination is likely Namibia’s top attraction, with unique dunes rising nearly 400 meters—among the world’s tallest. The dunes glow in morning and evening light, attracting photographers from around the globe. Sossusvlei is home to a diverse array of desert wildlife, including oryx, springbok, ostrich, and various reptiles.
Explore the Dead Vlei, this ancient clay pan that was once an oasis, studded with acacias and fed by a river that suddenly changed course, leaving the earth to dry up along with the trees it previously supported. So dry were the climatic conditions that the trees never decomposed - instead they were entirely leached of moisture so that today, 900 years later, they remain as desiccated, blackened sentinels dotting the pan’s cracked surface. Surrounded by the red-pink dunes of the Namib Desert, they create a surreal spectacle.
The Dead Vlei is flanked by the Big Daddy dune, known to be the highest sand dune on earth.
Next to Dune 45, named for its location 45 kilometers past the town of Sesriem, Dune 45 is renowned for its elegant shape, which - along with its position close to the road - has earned it the distinction of ‘most photographed dune in the world’.
Continue to Elim Dune, known to be the longest dune, is roughly 100 meters in height, and the climb to its zenith takes under an hour.
After visiting the Dunes, continue to Sesriem Canyon. A deep chasm carved through the rocks by water, and it is a striking natural feature of the area that is best explored on foot. The canyon’s name was coined when early settlers used it as a water source, using six lengths of leather (‘ses riem - six thongs) tied together to lower buckets into the water at the base of the canyon.

This is a "trip of a lifetime" for anyone who wants to see raw nature at its best!

What an awesome experience. If it had cost twice as much, it still would have been a bargain. I travel a lot for leisure (4 to 6 international trips a year) and this trip was without a doubt, the best trip I have ever had.
